The Loss and Recovery of the World

The sixth event of the Technology and Socialization Project — the conference The Loss and Recovery of the World — took place in Warsaw, 6-7 November 2023. It was held in the Conference Room at the College of “Artes Liberales”, University of Warsaw (Dobra 72, 00-312 Warszawa).

The pandemic took away our „right to” and „joy of” the world. In the short time of „closure in home”, man ceased to be a “worldly being” and became an „alone animal” re-domesticated and fully controlled by “algorithmic governmentality”. The world has become a problem, rather an “assumption” than a “reality”. The main question we asked during the conference was if there’s a possibility of regaining the world and the joy derived from being in the world. Is the world still “something to live in”? Is the world still to be recovered? And what kind of world would we like to regain?

During the conference, we hoped to find answers to these and similar questions and discuss various strategies for overcoming the “cosmic melancholy”.

Confirmed keynote speakers include Joanna Bednarek, Paweł Dybel, Gregg Lambert, Alex Taek-Gwang Lee, Adam Lipszyc, Mirosław Loba, Mira Marcinów, Michał Paweł Markowski, Adam Nocek, Dominic Pettman, Monika Rogowska-Stangret
